Thomas Blanken studied Mechanical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands, where he received his Master degree in 2014. He is currently pursuing the PhD degree in the Control Systems Technology group within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology, funded through a personal grant from EUROfusion. His research focuses on model-based estimation and control of the particle density in tokamak plasmas and the supervisory control of key plasma quantities in these nuclear fusion devices. Experiments are performed on the TCV tokamak at the Swiss Plasma Center in Lausanne, Switzerland and the ASDEX-Upgrade tokamak at the Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik in Garching, Germany.
